Background
I lived in New York City for most of my adult life. For part of that time, I occupied an apartment next door to two women who earned their livelihood in the game – as they referred to it.
We became friends, and I spent many afternoons in their company. The women enjoyed swapping stories about adventures – and misadventures – in that life. Their stories became the genesis of THE GAME.
There’s another component to my knowledge of “the oldest profession.” When I was a child – to the great embarrassment of the family – one of our relatives was a high-end prostitute. I knew her as Aunt Ginny. Although Ginny was banished early on in my childhood, I remember her very well.
For THE GAME, I imagined that Ginny contacted me and provided me with notes for a novel she had been unable to finish – a novel in which she was a central character.
In the Prologue to THE GAME, I write about Ginny’s Christmas visits. This commentary is entirely accurate.
On the next page of this site, you will find an excerpt from the Prologue, plus a few additional words about Ginny.
